FOR SHOPIFY STORES

Shopify hides a lot of SEO debt behind a clean theme.

Shopify ships with reasonable SEO defaults and then quietly lets you destroy them through theme edits, app installs, and collection structures the platform was never designed for. We audit Shopify stores against a checklist of platform-specific failures we see again and again. £79 flat.

What we look for in your audit.

Every audit includes the same a prioritised action plan. For shopify stores, these are the six areas that matter most.

01

The duplicate URL problem Shopify never solved

Shopify lets your products live at multiple URLs at once: /products/x, /collections/y/products/x, /collections/all/products/x. Canonical tags handle the textbook case, but theme overrides and app injections break them constantly. We check every canonical on your store and flag the ones pointing the wrong way.

02

App bloat and Core Web Vitals

Most stores install 10 to 15 apps. Each one adds JavaScript. By the time your store loads, the LCP is 4 seconds and the CLS is jumping. We identify which apps are killing your speed and which can be deferred, removed, or replaced with lighter alternatives. Shopify Plus stores: we check whether your Hydrogen migration is actually faster than your old Liquid theme. Often it is not.

03

Collection page thinness

Default Shopify collection pages are a grid of products and nothing else. Google increasingly ranks collection pages over individual products for category-level queries (running shoes, leather wallets, etc). We audit whether your collections have enough unique copy to rank, or whether they are losing to thin competitor pages because both pages are equally thin.

04

Product schema served by your theme

Every modern Shopify theme injects Product JSON-LD. Half of them inject it incorrectly. Missing brand, missing aggregate rating, missing GTIN. We pull the schema from your live pages and flag the fields that need fixing in your theme's product.json or your app of choice.

05

Robots.txt and the platform defaults

Shopify locks down its robots.txt, but in 2024 they finally let you edit it. Most stores still have the default, which crawls and indexes things you do not want indexed (account, cart, /search results). We list the lines you should add to your robots.txt.liquid file.

06

Blog content as a tag-soup risk

Shopify blog tags create a URL per tag. Most stores tag their posts liberally and end up with hundreds of tag pages that are near-duplicates of each other. Google sees thin templated content and downranks the whole subdomain. We flag whether your tag pages should be noindexed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Questions we get a lot.

If your question is not here, email hello@bumpupseo.com and a real human (not a chatbot) will reply, usually within a few hours.

Is this an app I install in my Shopify store?

No. There is nothing to install. We fetch your public store URLs the same way Google does, analyse them, and email you the report. Your admin, theme, and store data are not touched.

Will the audit detect Shopify theme issues?

Yes. We see the rendered HTML your theme produces, so any theme-level issues (missing schema, render-blocking scripts, poor mobile templates) show up clearly. We do not modify your theme, we recommend what to change.

Does the audit cover both products and collections?

Both. Collection pages are usually the highest-converting organic landing pages on a Shopify store, and also where most stores have the worst SEO. The audit weights collection structure, faceted navigation, and category-level schema heavily.

What about Shopify Markets and multi-currency stores?

We support them. If you have multiple country variants, share the primary URL when you order and mention you use Markets in the notes. The audit will check your hreflang, currency declaration, and geographic targeting.

Will the audit conflict with any Shopify SEO apps I already use?

No. The recommendations are platform-level, not app-level. If you use an app to manage schema or sitemaps, the audit will tell you whether the app is configured correctly and where its output still leaves gaps.
